Jazz trained, soul driven
With a growing reputation as a powerful performer who is creatively ambitious and vocally masterful, Laura Ingram has the raw magnetism to rewire your radio.
Like The Teskey Brothers, Leon Bridges, and Alabama Shakes, Ingram writes and performs modern songs with an old world feeling. Bursting with soul, her originals are infectiously catchy and deeply thoughtful. Her music is inspired by the heart of Aretha Franklin, the grit of Tina Turner and the groove of Chaka Khan.
Like all great soul singers before her, Ingram developed her chops singing in the local gospel choir. At 16 she received a two year scholarship to study jazz at the Australian National University’s School of Music, under the tutorage of Australian jazz legend Vince Jones.
Ingram is currently working on releasing her debut EP later this year with producer Bob Knob (of Melbourne label HopeStreet Recordings). Featuring on the tracks are some of Melbourne’s heaviest soul musicians including Tom Martin (The Putbacks), Richard Bradbeer (Dorsal Fins), Dan Morgaman (The Bamboos) and Luke Collins.
Ingram’s sassy performances and powerful originals have inspired celebrated acts like Clare Bowditch and Caiti Baker to tap Laura on the shoulder when looking for national supports.
With a voice as strikingly powerful as it is tender, and a confidence and presence to match, Ingram is a singer to watch in 2019.
